Lebanon Township Volunteer Fire Department Inc. 532 West Hill Road Glen Gardner, NJ 08826 Serving Lebanon Township and surrounding communities since 1951 September 25, 2009 Dear fellow Lebanon Township resident:
This is our annual fund drive letter. We don’t like asking for money from our Township residents but your support is essential to our continuing to provide service to the Township. Who are we? · We are dedicated volunteers in your community. We are your neighbors and your emergency is our emergency. We come from all walks of life. We are farmers, small business owners, policemen, EMT’s, public employees, industrial workers, landscapers, construction workers, mechanics, students, even a lawyer and homemaker. · Throughout the year the all volunteer members of Lebanon Twp. Fire Department leave their families, homes and jobs to answer your emergency calls. Last year we responded to almost 200 fires, alarms, automobile accidents, fuel leaks and other emergency calls. Our two fire houses cover approximately 32 square miles. We do it gladly, but we need your help to continue. · Our members volunteer their time and energy. We don’t get paid for responding to emergencies, maintaining equipment or attending drills and training. We’re on call 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. We don’t work shifts. When the alarm sounds, whether at 3:00 AM or in the middle of dinner, we respond. In order to adequately protect the residents of our community, we must also spend a considerable amount of time raising funds. You may not realize that while we do receive a portion of our funding from the township government, these amounts are significantly short of what is required to adequately protect your lives and property. We hold our annual fundraiser, pancake breakfasts and other fundraisers for only one reason: To raise money needed to maintain your fire department at the highest state of readiness! With the money raised · We buy needed fire fighting equipment, protective gear (at a cost of approximately $6,500 per person), and uniforms. · From your contributions in past fund drives, this past year, we were asked by our town council to contribute $35,000.00 to purchase a new 2,500 gallon Tanker Truck that will replace our 27 year old Tanker Truck. · We also agreed to purchase a $55,000.00 Brush Truck that is needed to protect property that can’t be reached with a large size fire engine, using money solely from fire company funds donated by you. Because the Township Council did not have funds in its budget for this vehicle, we bought it without any contribution from your taxes at all. · And we must continue to pay for maintenance on all our equipment. After spending so much on needed equipment, we have depleted most of our funds. The Lebanon Twp. Volunteer Fire Department’s members ask you to please give generously so we can continue to safely serve you. Your tax-deductable donation will help us become better firefighters, adequately equip and maintain our department, and continue to provide the level of emergency response you need and deserve.
We thank you for your continued support! www.ltfdnj.org/
